Legend HeartGold and Soulsilver
Posted By: Fireblast918 @ Oct 18 2009, 10:16 AM
LEGEND: HeartGold and SoulSilver CollectionLEGEND: HeartGold and SoulSilver Collection is the next Japanese set and is themed after the upcoming HeartGold and SoulSilver video games. It was released in Japan on October 9th.

Basic Info | Changes to the TCG | Set Info | FAQ | Card Translations | Set Lists | Promo Cards | Promo Card Images

Basic Information
This set marks a new set block - LEGEND. The previous set block was Platinum, and the one before was Diamond and Pearl.
The “set” is divided into two mini-sets - HeartGold Collection and SoulSilver Collection. Our English set will combine both sets. Each pack costs 315 yen and contains 11 cards, including two holos (one regular holo and one reverse holo) and a redesigned basic Energy card.
A “Random Basic Pack” containing 60 cards will be released at the same time for 1400 yen. 30 of the 60 will be random cards from the set, six of those 30 will be holo cards, and the other 30 cards will be basic Energy cards. The pack also comes with a bonus Red Gyarados card.
Changes to the TCG
Legendary Pokemon cards now replace LV.X Pokemon - they are oversized Pokemon split into two cards that you have to place together to use. One card features a huge chunk of artwork of the Pokemon while the other card features its attacks - putting them together forms one complete card, as seen in the images below. For the purpose of using powers and Trainers, Legendary Pokemon cards are treated as their own subclass, much like Basic Pokemon cards, Evolution cards, LV.X cards, and so on. To bring a Legendary Pokemon into play, you must collect both halves of its card, then play both cards at the same time onto your Bench. Due to the nature of Legendary cards, they can’t be played during setup. The two halves of the card are numbered differently, but since they both have the same name, it’s likely that you can only run a total of four halves in a deck (two complete cards).
Great Pokemon, a new type of card, are described as Pokemon that “specialize in battling,” but they do not seem to have any sort of new mechanics tied to them as of yet. They are simply regular Pokemon cards. You can evolve Totodile to Croconaw and then to Feraligatr (a Great Pokemon) like any other evolutionary line. Perhaps they can be considered stronger Pokemon, as evidenced by Feraligatr’s Pokemon Power. There will be eight in the set.
Starting with this set, Japan will now get reverse holos in their booster packs. Each booster pack comes with 11 cards: one holo, one reverse holo, one energy, and eight other cards from the set. With every two booster packs a person buys of this set, they will receive one of six promo cards. Three new tournament promos will also be released after this set is released - Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr.
“Trainer” cards are now called “Goods,” which is the Japanese Pokemon term for “Items.” Thus, we will now have Goods cards, Supporters, Stadiums, and Tools. This is probably to clear up past confusion caused by calling all non-Pokemon and Energy cards “Trainer Cards” while also having basic “Trainer” cards. Existing “Trainers” will be treated as Goods when interacting with cards from the LEGEND block.
For this set block, each card will feature a gold and silver border in obvious reference to HeartGold and SoulSilver. The template for Pokemon cards is now also slightly updated - the evolution box is next to the Pokemon’s name and the coloring behind the HP is now white. Great Pokemon have a special border around the artwork, the artwork seems to be zoomed-in to their faces, and their names are holo.
Set Information
There are 70 cards in each of the two mini-sets.
One secret card per set - Alph Lithograph.
No overlap between the two sets, except for eight basic Energy cards.
The sets will feature redesigned basic Energy cards. Each Energy type will also apparently feature silhouettes of certain Pokemon.
The English set should have 150 cards, excluding any promos added in.

2009-10 Pokemon League Prize Support Changes
Posted By: jahvie24 @ Sep 4 2009, 03:35 AM
The official Go-Pokemon website has announced that starting with this year's Pokemon League, players will be able to earn two special promo cards per season. At least one of the cards will be a highly-sought after card that competitive Pokemon players use in their decks all the time; both promos will be printed on a new holofoil pattern never seen before.

Starting with the first season, Pokemon Leagues will give players who meet certain requirements Uxie from Legends Awakened and an unidentified Snorlax card. Uxie can go for $10-$25 on eBay as can other staple cards, such as Claydol from Great Encounters. Thus, Pokemon Leagues will make it easier to obtain important cards in competitive decks while also bolstering attendance. In addition to the two promos, players can also earn exclusive Pokemon-themed DS skins.

Thank you POP and TPCi! Now more players will be motivated to attend League and it will actually benefit our decks! To find a League near you, you can use the League Locator on the official Go-Pokemon website.

The 2009-2010 league cycle launches on September 21st, and Trainers everywhere will be grabbing their cards and gathering at their local leagues to have fun!

Starting with the Rival season, players of all ages will be able to enjoy all-new seasonal themes based on the toughest Pokémon Trainers in the Sinnoh region, earn all-new league rewards, and even earn credits toward our revamped Player Rewards program! This cycle also marks the first time that the Pokémon League features prizes specifically for Pokémon video game players!

Each season, players will have a chance to earn two different promotional cards. The cards will be printed in a new foil pattern never before used on any other Pokémon card, and not only do they look amazing, but they are also cards that competitive players will be happy to include in their favorite decks! For example, Rival season will offer players a chance to earn Snorlax and Uxie—both of which are popular and instantly recognizable!

In addition to the promo cards, players who play in multiple league seasons and meet certain goals will also have the opportunity to earn unique league-themed Nintendo DS™ skins! These DS skins are available exclusively through league participation and will be rewarded every other season.
